Checking for a Warrant in Cochran County
Start with whatever paper you got. A Cochran County check works best when you call the office that actually holds the case. A citation written on a county road or a justice-court matter goes to the countywide Justice of the Peace. A Morton ticket belongs to Morton Municipal Court, and a Whiteface ticket to Whiteface Municipal Court. Felony questions belong with the District Clerk and the 286th District Court. The sheriff can tell you what its office confirms. The official county page posts no warrant-search form. Gather your details first. Have the citation or cause number, your legal name, and date of birth ready when you call. Ask whether the Cochran County file shows a citation, an active warrant, a capias pro fine, or a failure to appear. The difference matters. A payment portal may list a balance yet hide a warrant, and a blank online result settles nothing.
- Read the citation or court notice and identify the issuing court.
- Call that clerk to ask about the case, warrant label, status, and next date.
- Use the JP's linked GovRec page only if the clerk confirms it covers the citation.
- Contact the sheriff for its confirmation route or request existing sheriff records by email.
- Ask a lawyer or the court about a safe way to appear, post bond, or seek recall.
Cochran County Warrant Search: Room B-7
Start with the county's own site. The Cochran County home page lays out the courthouse contact route. For warrant work in Cochran County, the sheriff is the main desk. Call 806-266-5211 for an operational question. For records already on file, write to Sheriff@co.cochran.tx.us. Describe what you seek, a date range, and how you want copies delivered. Fees, identity rules, and response timing for a warrant-status request go unpublished. The sheriff may also withhold material under a law-enforcement exception or another rule. None of the county's links is a warrant database. There is no active-warrant roster or most-wanted list. No warrant-unit phone or public search tool appears either. That gap does not mean no Cochran County warrant exists. The Cochran County Sheriff page shows the general phone, both email addresses, and its jail report and custody links.
The Cochran County page offers contacts, not searchable warrant entries. Ask the office what it can verify before trusting any web result.
Cochran County Warrant Types
Cochran County courts issue different papers for different events. An arrest warrant rests on probable cause. It directs an officer to take a person into custody. A bench warrant usually follows a missed setting or a broken order. A capias pro fine deals with an unpaid justice or municipal court judgment after the statutory steps. None of these terms are interchangeable, though each can end in arrest. The issuing court in Cochran County controls the file and sets the route to respond. Texas Chapter 15 governs arrest-warrant complaints and magistrates. Current Chapter 45A covers justice and municipal court process, including capias pro fine rules. A search warrant is different again. It authorizes a search for evidence. That is not a personal lookup product.
| Process | Common local source | First office to ask |
|---|---|---|
| Felony arrest warrant | District criminal case | District Clerk or 286th District Court |
| Traffic or Class C warrant | County or city citation | Justice of the Peace or city court |
| Capias pro fine | Unpaid or unsatisfied judgment | Issuing JP or municipal court |
| Search warrant | Evidence investigation | Issuing court, subject to access limits |
Why Cochran County Land Records Miss Warrants
The county clerk runs a land-records portal. The Cochran County Clerk's online records search covers recorded real-property material, with a search term, date ranges, and index or full-text scope. It is not a criminal database. A name match there says nothing about a warrant. A blank result tells you nothing either. It reaches no JP, city, county, or district criminal file. That distinction matters because both services tie to county offices. The County Clerk and District Clerk appear on the same county page. Their roles in Cochran County stay legally distinct. The land-record vendor cannot replace the clerk's Room 102 case-record counter, a court's own file, or the sheriff's records channel. For a county citation, ask the JP whether the case appears in GovRec and what that result means.
Inside a Cochran County Warrant Record
Cochran County posts no public warrant roster or local number format. A court or agency record still holds fields that help you confirm the right case. Ask the clerk to verify the status. The clerk can say whether it means active, served, recalled, or closed in that court's system.
| Case number | Links a warrant to a court file or citation. Cochran's public sources do not publish a standard format. |
|---|---|
| Issuing authority | The court or magistrate that ordered the process; the holding agency may be different. |
| Warrant type | Arrest, bench, alias, capias pro fine, or another legal process. |
| Charge or judgment | Offense or court judgment tied to the process, with protected details redacted where required. |
| Bond and status | Amount and type if set, plus active, served, recalled, or other status when maintained. |
Never guess at a sample number. A Cochran County clerk can explain how its cause or citation numbers work without exposing another person's record.
Cochran County Warrant Offices Share One Courthouse
One building, many counters. Cochran County packs most of its offices into the Morton courthouse, but each keeps its own records and answers its own questions. The sheriff works out of Room B-7, while the County Clerk and District Clerk share Room 102. The countywide Justice of the Peace sits in Room B-4, and County Court occupies Room 105. The 286th District Court lists Suite 205 plus an alternate Levelland location for some operations. Call ahead and confirm where to go before you drive over. For contacts, the county home page posts the courthouse address and a central phone number. A combined clerk page covers Lisa Smith's office, and the Justice of the Peace page lists Judge Erica Soliz with hours, phone, and email. Sharing a roof does not mean one Cochran County clerk can confirm every active warrant.

Cochran County Warrant Search and OmniBase
OmniBase is not a statewide Cochran County warrant lookup, so keep that straight before you call anyone. The Texas Department of Public Safety uses the system through its Failure to Appear/Failure to Pay Program. It tracks reported citation violations and license-renewal compliance, nothing more. DPS staff will not tell a caller whether a warrant exists. For the citation itself, go to the issuing JP or city court. Call OmniBase at 800-686-0570 only about the reported FTA or FTP record. The DPS program page points every payment, trial, and appearance question back to the reporting court. Clearance can take several business days to show up. A driver-record update and a recalled warrant are two separate changes, so save the court receipt and ask when each system should reflect it. A clean screen on one does not confirm the other.
Issuing and Serving Warrants in Cochran County
In Cochran County, the judge or magistrate with authority over a case issues its process. Law enforcement then carries it out. The 286th District Court handles district criminal matters, while the JP and city courts issue process in their own lower-court cases. Texas law lets a municipal peace officer or marshal serve municipal process where one exists. Cochran's public sources name no current city marshal or local constable contact. So ask the issuing clerk directly which agency holds a particular warrant and where to arrange service or bond. The sheriff's general contact line proves nothing about whether Room B-7 accepts surrender or bond payments. The city courts stay separate from county offices, too. Morton houses both the municipal court and the county courthouse, though in different locations. That shared town does not make the offices one.
If You Have a Warrant in Cochran County
Think a warrant in Cochran County is yours? Call the issuing court before you show up anywhere. Ask what the court file says and whether a warrant is still active. Ask whether the judge wants a date set, a motion filed, a bond posted, or some other step. Not sure which court issued it? Start with the citation or case paper, then ask the sheriff which office can confirm the holding agency. Texas Article 45A.259 spells out one specific path for certain capias pro fine cases: a defendant can give notice and set a hearing, or voluntarily appear and make a good-faith effort to resolve the judgment, and the judge can recall the capias under the statute. Other warrants may call for counsel, a bond, or a court motion instead. Cochran County publishes no surrender schedule, no current bond table, and no universal walk-in rule. Only the issuing court can tell you what your case needs.
Before appearing: Ask the issuing court or a lawyer where to report, whether bond is set, and whether an appearance can be arranged safely.
Bring receipts, court orders, and any prior payment proof with you in Cochran County. A payment screen alone does not mean the court has recalled the warrant.
Cochran County Warrant Records and Public Access
The Texas Public Information Act favors public access to government records, but it has limits. Chapter 552 lets law-enforcement information stay withheld when release could interfere with detection, investigation, or prosecution. A juvenile arrest warrant gets separate confidentiality under Family Code Section 58.010. So does its supporting complaint or affidavit. A sealed or unserved warrant may not be open to a general request at all.
Access rules:
Texas Government Code Chapter 552 allows access to public information, subject to listed exceptions.
Texas Family Code Section 58.010 protects juvenile arrest-warrant files.
Section 552.108 may cover records tied to an active investigation.
Cochran County Warrant Request Limits
Send a clear request to the office that holds the record. The sheriff lists Sheriff@co.cochran.tx.us for open-records emails. Court records should go to the issuing clerk instead. Explain the record sought, the date range, and preferred electronic delivery; Cochran County posts no warrant-request form, fee amount, or response-time promise.
Cochran County Warrants by City
Morton and Whiteface each run their own municipal court. Start with the city court for a citation issued inside city jurisdiction. A countywide ticket belongs with the JP instead. The two incorporated places in Cochran County have different contact gaps, so a Morton procedure should not be copied onto a Whiteface case. Each city page sets out its own available route.
Morton Warrant Records
1,690 residents, 2020 Census. Morton Municipal Court handles the city's citation path.
Whiteface Warrant Records
375 residents, 2020 Census. Call the municipal court to confirm current hours and process.
The U.S. Census Bureau's incorporated-place table lists Morton at 1,690 residents in 2020. Texas Demographic Center materials put Whiteface at 375.
Federal Warrants Leave Cochran County
Federal process runs on a separate court and law-enforcement track. Cochran County sits in the Northern District of Texas, Lubbock Division. No county sheriff contact or JP citation portal searches federal criminal files. PACER can show some public case dockets once you set up an account. Sealed complaints and investigative records may not appear there, so a blank docket cannot establish that no federal warrant exists. The Northern District court page and the U.S. Marshals courthouse listing describe the Lubbock federal locations. For a possible federal matter, contact counsel or the federal court directly. Treat the Room 102 clerk's counter as the wrong source.
Cochran County Has No Amnesty Warrant Day
Cochran County runs no warrant-amnesty week, roundup page, safe-surrender event, or clearing hotline. General notices on the county site do not establish a warrant program either. Any future event would need to name the participating court, the eligible case types, the date range, payment terms, appearance rules, and how the court will update the record. Until one appears, direct contact with the court named on the citation is the sound route. Ask Morton or Whiteface whether a city event exists. Ask the countywide JP about its own cases. Do not assume a statewide or neighboring-city roundup reaches Cochran County. It probably does not. The county notice page is the place to watch for official local announcements. That is where an amnesty day would be announced if one ever starts.
